The April Affair returns in 2027!
The April Affair is a queer ballroom mock competition and dance showcase that will take place on Saturday, April 17, 2027 at Just Dance Ballroom in Oakland, California.
Mock Competition and Dance Showcase:
The program will include “competition” rounds for Ballroom Styles—International Standard, International Latin, American Smooth, and American Rhythm.
Other rounds include Argentine Tango, Country-Western, and related partner-dance styles.
We invite a variety of teams and showdance couples to perform!
Social Dance, Lessons & Mixers:
There will be social dancing between sets, mini-lessons, line dancing, refreshments, and plenty of mingling.
Queers & Friends:
This queer event is a chance for all of us—queers, allies, and the rest of the community—to see lots of dancing our way. We welcome couples and teams that are (mostly) queer, same-sex, reverse-role, or a variety of types that help us see ballroom dance beyond the stereotype.
Registration:
Registration will be open in December. But now is a great time to plan for The April Affair as a performer or spectator.

The April Affair in 2026 was at Lake Merritt Dance in Oakland.
Thank you to all our family, friends, and fans, volunteers, judges, and dancers! We had an excellent time. Here are a few photos from the event.
